Informing, Connecting and Branding Professionals and Entrepreneurs

I was on my way to the office this morning and just had an urge to stop off for a cup of coffee. I almost resisted that urge but didn't and now I know why.

When I got my coffee and sat down, I ran into a friend that I had not seen in a week or so. We are involved in the same industry so our conversation revolved mostly around what we do. As the conversation wandered around the wheres and whys of business, he said, "You know .... if you have some time .... I have this thing that I need to get done ..." He went on to explain to me the project and what he would like me to do to help him with it.

When all was set and done, he offered me more work than I have had to date this year! Now, it is all "up in the air" and I may or may not be able to deliver (kind of the nature of our industry), but what if I had resisted the urge for a cup of coffee.

Now, I am a religious guy, so I have an explanation for the "prompting" this morning, but even if you are not, I would suggest that you consider these urges that seem to come from nowhere.

Just a thought ....

And just a P.S. to trusting those "accidental" encounters and to not hesitate to follow through.. a nice quote I picked up the other day:

"Regret for the things we DID can be tempered by time. It is the regret for the things we did NOT DO that is inconsolable." by Sidney J. Harris

Good luck with your "encounter" and let us know how it all shakes out...

I have to agree with DeBorah, Dave. I believe everything happens for a reason, and I am proof! If you ever want a fairy tale, with a great ending, let me know, I have one for you!
I believe in fate, destiny, whatever you wish to call it. I have been rolling over and just taking whatever life has been dealing to me for the last 25-30 years. Couple years ago, I had a wake up call, and started demanding what I want from this life, and everything is falling into place. My business is taking off, I am finally finishing college, and will be marrying the man I have been in love with for the last 25 years.. Life is good! Its all in how you take it, and what you do with it.

Great point, Dave. I'm not what folks might call religious, but suffice it to say I stopped believing in accidents years ago. One of the biggest keystones in what I teach others (I'm a coach and a workshop leader) is to learn to trust those urges and learn to listen for them.

Good job! I'll have to go by some of the thousands of coffee places in Portland, OR and see if I get an "urge" for business soon, myself!
