I've been playing with the new Digg and like it. Any thoughts pro or con as compared to the older Digg and other social bookmarking sites?

I like the layout better and the ease of content submission. However, the real as yet unanswered question is: "Will the engagement be there?" If people won't view the content of those to whom they subscribe, then the new Digg will be useless as a social bookmarking site.

I suspect that most of the Digging doesn't take place on Digg itself. Rather, people click on Digg widgets where the content is located. If that's true, then Digg may just be popularity contest with the actual on-site viewing done only by hard core Digg users.

The jury is out.
I agree with Larry, that it is too early to tell whether Digg is going to make it or not. They have waited too long, in my opinion, to make changes. And the changes they have made now, look more like an imitation of Facebook and Twitter, than of a vision of their own. I wrote an article about the new DiggIf you wonder what has changed, you may want to check it out.
The most positive part I see is the fact that they are moving away from a small group of "power users" and try to be more appealing to the masses. The risk, of course, is that they loose the power users, but the masses are not interested in engaging in yet another social media site.
With the arrival of the "My News" page, you have the potential to achieve authority status by being the first to develop a comprehensive list of valuable content for your niche. The key is to move fast and now! If you can build a page of significant value in your niche, the likelihood is significant that people will visit you. Much more so than in the old system.
What do you think of the "new Digg"? Do you like it. Will you be using it? Why, or if you don't, why not?
I just published an article Karin, What are Social Bookmarking Sites? In the article I mentioned you and linked to this group.
Thanks Larry. I just commented on your great (as usual) post. I am encouraging you to rethink your position of Digg a little. You do want to experiment with the "new digg". It might pay off.

As I responded on my blog, Karin, "I am keeping an open mind about Digg and hope that the new Digg will be one of the focuses of [this group]."
