Personally, since I am working so hard to keep the bill collector's off my doorstep, I have had to take a somewhat different approach. While I am not able to query book proposals (as I should do because I am an author after all)—I am writing content for money; I try to find ways to develop friendships but also to "mentor" and aid people as I go. For example, doing book interviews with other authors and publishing it in my e-newsletter. As a consequence, my virtual friends usually become lifetime friends and that is my aim.

Then in the future when I finally do get back to book creation, I will have friends that I can rely on to spread the word because "creating buzz" is everything in the book business. Although publishing is tanking and evolving at the same time, I know who my core friends and readers are. Now if I could only clone myself to find more time to do what I actually love, writing books, things would be hunky-dory.
