I agree that participation in social media is key. However, each person has to choose his/her own approach.

I think one of the most important aspects of being social is being active and friendly. Anti-social is a term for someone who comes to the party and stands in the corner. For those who join facebook or other social sites and never participate will never realize the opportunities for growth that abound. And, sort-a the guy at the party that stands around talking about himself all the time...ya got-a bring something to the table that is engaging, has meaning to those in your circle and promotes conversation. I am still surprised at those who I meet in my local area who say, "Yea, aren't you on facebook? I know I've seen your face before. You always have interesting comments."

Jack I agree with you about Larry. This is another brilliant idea from Larry. I feel a good energy from this group and expect good things will come about for all of us. According to your definition of social media, where does small business social media fit in? Are we to speak of business and business practices only or will we grow as friends and business associates? I am in favor of the later.

Media is some type of communication: Television, radio, billboards, the Internet, a print ad in a magazine are all exmaples of media. Social implies an action where two or more people interact to share or learn something. So I guess social media could be defined as a vehicle that allows people to interact.

Just realized I never joined this group as I thought I had a couple months ago. I look forward to learning from and networking with everyone in the group. Will soon post an intro. Right now it's time to spend with my granddaughter in beautiful Tennessee!

Jack, if I was smart enough to do that, I'd hypnotize people to send cash.
