What is Virtual Office Technology or VOT? The Virtual PBX? What does it mean when you see these acronyms?
Virtual office technology, including the VPBX, is more than just a buzzword in the mobile workforce today. If your office is somewhere between Times Square and El Cajon, or even El Capitan, then your office is anywhere you want it to be.
But, how do people get in touch with you if you're enjoying the peace and quiet of nature at the foot of El Capitan, or if your dodging taxis in Lower Manhattan?
You do it with virtual technology, or "in the cloud" as the new moniker claims.
Virtual office technology really isn't all that new: it's been around for at least the past 30 or 40 years: only, disparate. Now, with the emergence of the Internet, SIP trunking, MPLS and VoIP, the virtual office has become more coordinated. You are no longer required to make your business "jump through hoops" to adapt to your communications because you had to buy everything from separate vendors. Now, you can find many vendors offering all the components under one package, and for one price.
Thirty years ago, it was nothing unusual for a business to spend upwards of 6 figures for an "in-house" system. Nowadays, you can have a complete system, hosted remotely through a TPA -- or, a Third Party Administrator -- for about the cost of a cup of Starbucks each day... or less.
The virtual office and PBX has really changed the way a lot of people do business, but it hasn't made them change their business model to accomplish it.
Does that make any sense?
Nobody really likes change just for the sake of "change." Especially when it comes to the way you do business. You always hear old hands at the water cooler talking about "the way we always did it" and how they're resistant to the "new guy" with all his bright ideas.
Can't say I much blame them.
Enter VOT and the VPBX.

And, if you're not in a business? You can still use virtual technology in your personal life. The applications are endless and life changing: but they won't change the way you go about life... or business! :)
